1 – 9 March SUMMARY
The celebrations for Singapore World Water Day (SWWD) have started with a bang! Here’s a summary on the activities enthusiastically organised by the community for the community.
1 MARCH: GEYLANG SERAI CELEBRATES CNY & SWWD 2015
Geylang Serai organized a SWWD-themed Chinese New Year celebration for the community at Geylang River involving various activities such as brisk walking and game booths.
1 MARCH: ALCHEMY OF HIPPIENESS ABC WATERS LEARNING TRAILS
Ustaz Saif-ur-Rahman organized a trail at Kallang River @ Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park for 30 of his students to educate them on the significance of water and the environment in Islam.
1 MARCH: RIVER VALLEY HIGH SCHOOL LED LEARNING TRAIL FOR COMMUNITY
Students from River Valley High School, facilitated the ABC Waters learning trail at Jurong Lake for delegates from Sino-Singapore Tianjin Eco-city.
1 MARCH: FAMILIARISATION AND BONDING PARTY AT JALAN BESAR BOON KENG VILLE
PUB reached out to the public with a booth on water conservation. SWWD messages were also incorporated in the emcee’s script.
4 MARCH: ANDERSON JUNIOR COLLEGE LED LEARNING TRAIL FOR COMMUNITY
Anderson Junior College students led an ABC Waters Learning Trail for other JCs in their cluster at Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park. The trail was Science-themed with various stations that provided useful general knowledge to the participants
5 MARCH: PAT’S SCHOOLHOUSE @ NVC
Teachers of Pat’s Schoolhouse were given the opportunity to gain knowledge on water and the Singapore Water Story. The teachers went through a guided tour of the NEWater Visitor Centre, followed by a Teacher’s Workshop and a Rain Garden Workshop.
6 MARCH: GEYLANG RIVER
St. John Girl Guides got together at Nanyang Girls High School to prepare for their booth that will be at Singapore World Water Day main event at Sports Hub on 21March.
6 MARCH: HDB VOID DECK WALL MURAL PAINTING
Anderson Secondary School students partnered with Ang Mo Kio Town Council to create large murals with various conservation messages at various HDB blocks.
6 MARCH: HENDERSON SECONDARY SCHOOL OUTREACH
In conjunction with SWWD, students from Henderson Secondary School visited residents to spread the water conservation messages.
6 MARCH: KINDERLAND PRESCHOOL HQ TRAINING
A Pre-school Teachers Workshop was organised for the teachers of Kinderland Preschool HQ on the 6th of March. The teachers went through a guided tour of the NEWater Visitor Centre, followed by a Teacher’s Workshop and a Rain Garden Workshop.
7 MARCH: NORTH EAST COMPRESSPORT RUN PACKS COLLECTION
Participants of the North East Compressport Run were treated to a surprise visit by Water Wally when they came to collect thousands of race packs at Sengkang Community Club to prepare themselves for the race on 15 March.
7 MARCH: RICOH LEARNING TRAILS RICOH
Asia Pacific led an ABC Waters Learning Trail at Marina Reservoir for its staff and families
7 MARCH: MANDARIN ORIENTAL DOOLDING COMPETION
Mandarin Oriental Singapore organised a Live Doodling Competition with the theme of water conservation with 50 student artistes from LaSalle College of the Arts and Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA).
8 MARCH: IRO FOUNDER’S DAY
The Inter-Religious Organisation unveiled the Faith and Water exhibition panels on 8 March 2015 at the Central Sikh Temple along Towner Road.
8 MARCH: YUHUA PLEDGE
In the month of March, Jurong GRC residents will be celebrating World Water Day 2015 at several events in the heartlands. On 8 March, residents celebrated SWWD at Yuhua Village. Ms Grace Fu Hai Yien, Minister, Prime Minister’s Office, Second Minister for the Environment and Water Resources and Second Minister for Foreign Affairs, also joined in to pledge to conserve water.
8 MARCH: TAMAN PLEDGE
DPM Tharman, together with Taman Jurong residents, making their pledges to save water. This is part of SWWD 2015 celebrations at Jurong GRC.
8 MARCH: ROCHOR CANAL OPENING
ABC Waters @ Rochor Canal was officially opened on Sunday, 8 March 2015 by Mayor of Central Singapore District and Adviser to Moulmein-Kallang Group Representation Constituency (GRC), Denise Phua.
8 MARCH: GREEN CORRIDOR RUN
Thousands of runners participated in Green Corridor Run 2015, which was graced by the presence of Minister Vivian himself. Hundreds of participants also carried jerry cans with water during the run to help raise fund for charity.
8 MARCH: SWWD @ YISHUN POND
Alexandra Health celebrated SWWD at Yishun Pond on 8 March with activities such as brisk walking cum litter-picking and zumba by the water so that residents and staff could learn about water conservation and green practices.
MONTH OF MARCH: SWWD @ CHANGI AIRPORT
Changi Airport Group placed water conservation messages alongside its Kinetic Rain display.
