The team from Woodlands Ring Secondary School – Runner-up for Singapore Junior Water Prize

Woodlands Ring Secondary School snatched the second place at the 2012 Singapore Junior Water beating Hwa Chong Institution and finishing just behind winners Anderson Junior College.

The team from the neighbourhood school were demoralised initially upon learning that numerous other established schools were taking part in the competition.

15-year-old Jordan Low, a representative from Woodlands Ring Secondary School, gave a quote from Batman Begins to sum up his four-man team’s experience: “The reason why we fall is so that we learn how to pick ourselves up”. He explains that it was only through never giving up and learning from their mistakes that gave his team their victory.

Currently in its fifth year, the Singapore Junior Water Prize requires participants to conceptualise and design a viable solution to one of the many water problems plaguing the world today.

The results from the Sembcorp Water Technology Prize were also released:
First place: Bukit Panjang High School
Second Place: Victoria School
Third Place: Raffles Girls School

The Sembcorp Water Technology Prize required participants to come up with a working model of a NEWater plant. It is aimed at creating awareness and interest for water technology amongst youth.
