Who says drain covers are boring?

28 Jun 2010

Have you ever looked at a drain and wondered where it went? Soon you’ll be able to find out exactly where each drain goes just by reading the text printed on drain-top stickers.

Besides beautifying the normally grey and drab drain covers, the stickers are part of a pilot project launched last month by national water agency PUB to highlight the importance of keeping drains clean, as they serve as drainage for rain water into reservoirs. After all, you wouldn’t want your drinking water contaminated by your own litter would you?

So far, the stickers have been installed at selected drain covers in Bishan, Tampines and Jurong, as well as at the bus stop outside the Suntec Convention Centre where Water Week is happening until Friday.

Members of the public will be able to personalise the drain covers with their creative interpretations of how a wonderful world with clean will be, by entering their designs in a competition held by PUB.

This competition will be split into two categories – one for students and another open category – and is currently open for submissions until 2 August 2010.
